World Vision’s Kirivong phase out party!!19-23 Aug 2024

A special trip to celebrate the closing of project Kirivong’s phase out party after 15 years. Kirivong district is a mountainous area in Takeo Province, to the south of Phnom Penh city, and
close to the Vietnam border to the east. A total of over 10,000 children and their families were supported in this project which spans 15years! We also got a chance to visit the new AP which is up north. So for this trip there was lotsa travelling and sleeping in the van!

Here are some highlights of the trip:

We visited the WASH programme in new AP Kulean2.

Reflection by trippers:

“You know that this trip is special cos the obstacles were cleared for me to go. First there was vacancy for me for trip, my training was taken over by a kind colleague and it coincided with a time when I do not need to conduct lessons. However it has been 12 years since I visited Kirivong in 2012 and my first sponsored child has moved on. I did not know what to expect just that I wanted to witness the phase out party after 15years! Though I did initially wonder why I was there as the weather was super hot and humid, the kindness of trippers, their love for the children and the fact that we became friends after “suffering” together in the hot sun was evident that we are “one world”. As one van’s aircon did not quite work well, we were put into two vans and got to know one another better through travelling long journeys! The innocence of the children and their zest to compete their best for a simple hula hoop competition even though there were no prizes, show me that we can become a better version of ourselves if only we step out of our comfort zone and just get to know what is happening in these APs!! To God be the glory!”- Pin Lay

“This was my first visit, and I was eager to meet my sponsor child. I was genuinely impressed by the resilience and adaptability of the children, even though they live with limited infrastructure. Their smiles, laughter, and happiness showed me how appreciative they are of their surroundings and the small gestures from others. Meeting my sponsor child made me realize the vital role education plays in empowering and shaping the future of these children. I sincerely hope that World Vision will continue to support and uplift more underprivileged communities.” – Leanne

This was the first World Vision Trip I participated in and my first time in Cambodia. It was an enlightening experience for me, WVS Cambodia and Singapore Staff were so accommodating, looking after us throughout the trip, and teaching us about their area programs. Through this trip, I learned in depth of the important work done by World Vision and how they transform the lives of the children in their programs. I hope that all the children that World Vision helps are able to achieve their goals and dreams.”

“Yes, I want to stay here and continue helping the children,” said the World Vision staff with such raw enthusiasm.
A trip that only meant to visit my sponsored child, I returned home with my heart filled up with the most precious moments one could ever wished upon. I’m beyond thankfulness to be part of this journey to witness the positive impacts and works of World Vision – they have transform the lives of many for the better, including mine. – Fae

“On my World Vision trip, unknown paths revealed the brightest smiles and hopeful hearts. Meeting the most vulnerable families and sponsored children highlighted areas where more support is needed. I am grateful for the opportunity to witness the generosity of the communities in Cambodia, Singapore, and World Vision, all working together to create a better tomorrow.” – Komme

“The trip organised by World Vision Singapore to Cambodia has made such an impact & lasting impression upon my life. The time spent with the children at the wash project, school and the vulnerable family was so meaningful & purposeful. The opportunity given to visit my sponsored child and her family was so heartening because it was a dream that came true for me since I took up the child sponsorship few years ago.
Upon hearing all the great reports, I truly celebrate the success & achievements which brought about transformation & sustainability to the district of Kirivong. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to World Vision Singapore & World Vision Cambodia for making a difference in the lives of these children, their families and the community they live in.
With love ❤️”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Kirivong Phase Out party. It was heartwarming to hear the testimonies of the Cambodians whose lives have been transformed by the work of World Vision. I was really touched when I visited the tents showcasing their handicraft, handwritings, artworks, the fruits of their labour and the numerous photos of the help that they had received from World Vision. Though I did not get to meet my sponsored child because he had left to work in another province, I am still happy to have made the trip to see the works that have been done by World Vision in Kirivong and the works to be done in Kulean.”. – Carol

“Albeit having been to Cambodia numerous times, this was my first trip with WV. My time spent in Cambodia was meaningful and eye-opening. The highlight of this trip was finally being able to meet my sponsored child of 5 years and even celebrating her belated birthday together.
The scenes from the school and villages in Kulean would be forever etched in my heart and mind. The laughter from the school children as they played ball games with us. The vibrant and enthusiastic classroom environment. The warmth and friendliness of the villagers as they welcomed us into their homes with the universal language of a smile.
There is an old adage  of ‘everywhere you go becomes part of you’ is particularly apt.” – Amelia
